To Camden Lock please!Whenever in London on a sunny day, I can't resist the urge for a big walk to discover or re-discover what the capital has to offer. After meeting family at Victoria Station a few weeks ago, Dan and I decided to head over to Little Venice for a boat trip. We were going to jump on the Tube but with the sun shining and Google Maps telling us it would take only an hour to walk there, we couldn't resist a stroll. It was a great route taking in Green Park, the Wellington Arch, and a very pleasant 30 minute walk through Hyde Park, where Londoners and tourists alike were enjoying the cool cover of the trees. I always enjoy passing though the beautiful streets and mews around Gloucester Square and Sussex Gardens, even if we've been around there a million times! We finally hit the Paddington Basin, and it began to feel like a different world as the hustle and bustle of the city was slowly replaced by the calm of the water. We stopped for a spot of lunch at the Waterway. The restaurant offers delicious food in a brilliant canal-side location. The service was also top-notch. After filling our tums it was time for the boat trip to Camden Market. Believe it or not, I'd never been to Camden Market before and after the quietness of the canal waters, it was a real shock to be suddenly engulfed in the whirlwind of colours, smells and people that is this world famous market. I loved it. Street food is always so exciting as it transports you to exotic holiday destinations while walking around the stalls promising spicy delights, sweet treats and refreshing aromas. After a while though it was time for a break so we had a welcome pit stop at Yumchaa for a nice cuppa and a feta muffin, while overlooking the crowds below. We then headed for the Tube. Sat on the train back to Bristol, as the light was fading away, I thought this spontaneous trip was definitely a success and I'll happily do it again on another sunny day. Nina
