Sailing the wooden waves...There are a lot of amazing green spaces in Bristol, and Leigh Woods is definitely one of my favourite spots for a long Sunday walk in any seasons. The great thing about the woods is that there are often some really cool events organised in the lush surroundings. From drawing days, to family night walks and big tree climbing, the woods always have something on offer. This time though, it's the latest work of Luke Jerram (the man behind the giant water slide that some Bristolians were lucky enough to ride down Park Street last Summer) that we visited a couple of weeks ago. Entitled "Withdrawn", Luke Jerram's installation of old fishing boats in the middle of the woods, is the most surprising of visions. It's absolutely eerie and exciting and my brain could not process the absence of salty air and distant rumble of waves. How bizarre to only hear birds chirping and smell the mossy forest around. As the light of the day was slowly fading away, and the moist air was enveloping us, I would have loved to climb on board one of the boats to ride the wooden waves before take off like Peter Pan and the ship in the night sky... Nina Take a look at the list of events linked to Withdrawn on Luke Jerram's site. I'm very much looking forward to The Tempest, part of the Bristol Shakespeare Festival...! Comments
