Get lost!

I have to admit that I don't have the best sense on direction, but I surpassed myself last week when me and Virginia set off on another one of our epic walks!

As we've posted before, we love a big walk in Bristol, but there's still plenty more of the city to explore.

I searched online and found a walk around the Feeder Canal and River Avon. Perfect!

I printed out the map and we headed out.

The first part of the trip was very industrial with old, converted and abandoned buildings that used to be part of Bristol's major steel works industry.

We then arrived in a more naturally scenic area as we strolled along the canal. After a walk through an industrial estate, we arrived at the Avon.

Stood in the middle of a huge roundabout, I struggled to work out which why to go. Eventually though we found a path leading down to the riverside. It was very overgrown but there was a path. Definitely more our kind of place as we love a rural adventure!

However, as we continued into the undergrowth, the plants got thicker and we even had to crouch down a few times to fit under a couple of collapsed trees. It didn't really seem like the kind of walk official guides would recommend! We were even more confused when we arrived at a big, muddy drop and Virginia almost fell into the water after not realising some weeds were covering a large hole!

We trudged back to the main road a little annoyed and ready to complain to the council for not maintaining a walking route they recommend. But then we spotted a path going the other way. Switching on Google Maps I realised we had gone in completely the wrong direction!

A short stroll and the glorious sight of Sparke Evans Park appeared in front of us! The land was presented to Bristolians by entrepreneur PF Sparke Evans in 1902. There was only one other person there so a new hidden gem to add to our collection!

The rest of the walk involved no drops or hidden holes as we took in the views of the industrial but beautiful Paintworks complex, home to many of Bristol's creative businesses.

We completed our adventure with a pint of cider and laughed at our lost we got.
